New Discoveries:
Scotty Colin, Tanya Bub, and Maria Sieben
November 5 - 28, 2021
This month we celebrate three self-taught artists that are new discoveries to Outsiders and Others. These artists have shown their work before but not with us and it's an opportunity for us to bringthem together to present a creatively diverse exhibition of painting, mixed media drawing, and foundmaterial sculpture.
Scotty Colin
Scotty was born and raised in southern California, riding skateboards, and playing in punk rockbands.
"I moved to Vancouver in 2004. I’ve been through many chapters in life, some of them opposite ofmy highest potential. In 2010 my life fell apart and I began treatment for a debilitating heroinaddiction. It was there I took an art therapy class and discovered I was an artist. I began uncovering awhole new world through my art. My art is intuitive and I've been quite surprised to see what hascome out of me. Through my journey, I have become deeply interested in meditation, mysticism, andthe religious, ceremonial use of entheogenic plant medicines. My art has been the story of mystruggle to clean up, of my recovery, of my exploration into the realms beyond the five senses, of myjourney to live the best life that I'm capable of living, and to share that message with others."
Maria Sieben
"I am a self taught artist with a keen interest in trying out many things. When I began to paint afterretirement I tried oils and watercolors but now I use acrylic
in most of my work. Mixed media and collage (using my own painted papers) has become myfavorite method of exploration. I am fascinated with paper and what can be done with it. It is mygoal to produce abstract artwork using collage and mixed media."
Tanya Bub
Tanya is a sculpture who makes animals and people from found wood, wire and paper. She has donenumerous commercial and community projects. You can find her work in various places aroundVictoria, BC, particularly near the ocean.
Outsiders and Others is a non-profit art society that brings non-traditional artists to the forefront.
