The Many Faces of Time: Part Deux

Featuring artworks by Nadia Jones, Sam Kaplan, Anna Klijsen, Liz Perry, Angela Shallow and Sandra Yuen

August 3 - 31

Opening reception: Aug 3 from 2-4pm

Artist discussion: Aug 17 at 2pm

Co-curated by Seema Shah and Yuri Arajs.

"We are excited to present The Many Faces of Time: Part Deux, a group exhibition of six artists, each

connecting to the concept of time in their own unique way.

The artworks in this exhibition convey multiple facets of time through reflections of both self and

society, aspects of personal experience, and the literal depiction of time passing."

Here is a quote by each artist on their artwork:

Nadia Jones

“I do it today because I did it yesterday” is an exploration of unconscious ritual in relation to

addiction and obsession.

Sam Kaplan

“This piece explores the interweaves of composing, decomposing, life cycles, lineage and bodies over time. Created over multiple years, de(Composing) is an intermix of acrylic, ink and pen on paper. It ventures into the multigenerational impacts of diaspora and familial separation, threading through connection to nature.

Anna Klijsen

“Outer space is a container in which I’m bound. It is defined as everything and nothing, simultaneously. I relinquish those definitions, and the places where they fail.”

Liz Perry

“Through art, I confront my demons head on, channeling pain into creativity, transforming anguish into beauty. My work is a testament to the transformative power of art and the human spirit.”

Angela Shallow

“This series, like much of my work, pertains to themes of identity and mental health. The Faceless Portraits were created as a way to cope with and externalize a struggle with not having a sense of personal identity, and the struggles of living with depression, hopelessness and anxiety.”

Sandra Yuen

“This is part of a house portrait series of our disappearing city. “Construct” depicts a row of houses with a sense of anonymity, constructs of North American living. They are temporal in their transparency and use of simple lines and shadows.”

This exhibition complements The Many Faces of Time, a group exhibition of seven artists that took place in our window gallery on May 8 – June 30, 2024.

This exhibition is being presented in partnership with Professional Artistic Growth Made Accessible, with support from VCH’s Consumer Initiative Fund. PAGMA offers professional development opportunities to artists with lived experience of mental health issues and/or substance use issues.
