Victoria Marie: Save My Home *
September 9 - October 29, 2022
*In our window gallery at #100-938 Howe St., Vancouver
We are so excited to welcome back Vancouver artist Victoria Marie with a new exhibition at our window gallery at #100-938 Howe Street in Vancouver.
The first time we showed Victoria's artwork was about 1 year ago in a group exhibition called "Birds, Birds, Birds". That was the first time Victoria had ever shown her artwork in a gallery as well as being the first time she had ever sold her artwork.
In this exhibition you will see Victoria's continued love and attention to animals that are facing extinction due to climate change.
This is from Victoria:
"I am a self-taught, late blooming watercolour artist.Continuing in the late bloomer vein, at 42, I started the BA program at SFU and continued through to a PhD earned at age 60 from UBC. These academic endeavours were in the social sciences and were followed by Master of Divinity at Vancouver School of Theology. For the past 9 years, I have served the Our Lady of Guadalupe Tonantzin Community as their priest and pastor.
My artistic journey began in November 2020 at age 75. “My studio” is the approximately four feet between my bed and the computer.I try to hone my skill by painting daily sometimes with the help of YouTube “how to” videos. The work I love to do, and which usually turns out best, is when I work on my self-assigned project of painting endangered species."

18I said in my heart with regard to human beings that God is testing them to show that they are but animals. 19For the fate of humans and the fate of animals is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and humans have no advantage over the animals; for all is vanity. 20All go to one place; all are from the dust, and all turn to dust again. 21Who knows whether the human spirit goes upwards and the spirit of animals goes downwards to the earth? Hanging Lobster Claw
Influenced by the Georgia O'Keeffe's painting, "Grab's Claw Ginger Hawaii (1939)": Hanging lobster claw or false bird of paradise (Heliconia rostrata), is an herbaceous perennial plant native to South America. Other heliconias grow in an upright position (e.g. Heliconia bihai), their cup-shaped flower bracts storing water for birds and insects. This plant, however, has downward-facing flowers that provide a source of nectar to birds, especially hummingbirds, which are the primary pollinators of these plants.
